Sunita: The night she walked out

Problem: Sunita endured 9 years of silence and hidden bruises. โ€œGhar ki baat ghar mein hi rehni chahiye,โ€ her mother used to say. One night, after another violent episode, she stepped out at midnight with her 6โ€‘yearโ€‘old son.
How we helped: A local volunteer connected her to Asha Vatsalya Foundation. We provided safe shelter, legal assistance, and counseling support.
Outcome: For the first time, someone told her, โ€œGalti tumhari nahi hai.โ€ Today, Sunita runs a small tailoring unit โ€“ she didnโ€™t just leave abuse, she rebuilt her life from it.
โ€œI walked out with nothing. Now I have everything โ€“ respect, income, and peace.โ€ โ€“ Sunita

Rekha: The widow no one saw

Problem: Rekha lost her husband at 32. Relatives stopped visiting, neighbors whispered, society reduced her to โ€œbechari.โ€ She had two daughters and no income.
How we helped: Asha Vatsalya Foundation helped her learn stitching and smallโ€‘scale business skills, and supported her financially to start.
Outcome: Months later, she stitched her first school uniform. The same society that pitied her now respects her. Rekha says, โ€œMain ab bechari nahiโ€ฆ zimmedar hoon.โ€
โ€œMy stitching machine is my weapon against poverty and pity.โ€ โ€“ Rekha
